Repository

The National Society Colonial Dames XVII Century was formed in 1915 and membership eligibility is available to any woman who can establish lineal descent from an ancestor who lived and served prior to 1701 in one of the original colonies in the geographical area of the present United States of America.

The library is about two blocks from the DuPont Circle south red line exit and is located at the corner of N Street and New Hampshire Avenue.  The headquarters building on the corner is a brick building built in 1884 and is nestled in the historic and chic DuPont Circle neighborhood.  The Society purchased the building in 1957 from the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post #427.

The headquarters library and office are open Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., except during the organization’s national conference.  The NSCDXVIIC Library is available by reservation only. Members and guests are encouraged to make reservations to ensure workspace is available.

Be Prepared

If you are interested in ordering copies of applications or supplementals, review a copy of National Society of Colonial Dames XVII Century Ancestor Roster 1915-2005 or queries can be sent regarding ancestors to the genealogist at cd17genealogist@verizon.net.

Holdings

The collection focuses on Colonial American history.  Also available are record copies of membership applications and supplementals ($10 each) and Coat of Arms and Heraldry applications (also $10 each).  These can be requested via postal mail or in person when a reservation has been made.

The Coat of Arms collection and heraldry collection are gems.  Photos of the Coat of Arms on display in the building are also available for duplication for a fee.
