DNA Track

Debbie Parker Wayne, CG, CGL

Friday, 2:30 p.m., F-349 "Genetic Genealogy Case Studies: Maximize Use of DNA Test Results"

"Genetic Genealogy Case Studies: Maximize Use of DNA Test Results" is not the typical beginner DNA session seen at conferences. To get the most of this session you should already have a basic understanding of DNA inheritance patterns, available tests, and test results as covered in those introductory sessions. The “next step” in analysis, going beyond looking at lists of matches and surnames, gives you the best return on the investment made in DNA tests and increases your chance of genealogical research success.

These case studies illustrate analysis tools and techniques to take that next step for Y-DNA, mitochondrial DNA, autosomal DNA, and X-DNA analysis. Results from multiple testing companies are used. DNA findings are correlated with evidence from traditional research to answer a genealogical question.

Debbie Parker Wayne is known for explaining the complex subject of genetic genealogy in a way that is easy to understand. She teaches traditional research topics and DNA sessions varying from one-hour to all-day workshops. She has teamed up with other genetic genealogists to offer week-long, interactive, hands-on DNA courses helping beginners learn to use intermediate and advanced analysis techniques. Practical Genetic Genealogy will be offered this summer at the Genealogical Research Institute of Pittsburgh (GRIP, http://www.gripitt.org/) and Getting Started with Genetic Genealogy in January 2015 at the Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy (SLIG, http://www.infouga.org/cpage.php?pt=42).
