Repository

RELIC is a convenient and evocative acronym for the Ruth E. Lloyd Information Center, Prince William County’s special collection for genealogy and local history, in northern Virginia. A department of the Prince William Public Library System, we are located at Bull Run Regional Library, 8051 Ashton Avenue, Manassas, VA 20109. We are open and staffed the same hours as the library, Mondays through Thursdays 10 a.m.‒9 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and Sundays (during the school year) noon‒5 p.m.

Be Prepared

No appointment is needed to drop in. There are no entrance or parking fees. We allow cameras. Our photocopier is self-service (15 cents, makes change for a dollar). We have four Canon 300 microfilm reader-printers, one of which can download images to a USB (thumb) drive.

We also have substantial published sources for localities throughout the Commonwealth. And we collect guides, indexes, and databases that will help you begin your search regardless of where your family originated.

Holdings and Collections

We attempt to collect comprehensively for Prince William including photographs, maps, newspapers, directories, historic sites, cemeteries, family files, court records, tax lists, church records, and school yearbooks. We are constantly adding sources to our online Digital Library, including important indexes and guides prepared by our staff and volunteers. We are especially proud of “Prince William County People, 1701-1800.” See also our 19-page research guide, “Roots in Prince William.”

Services and Newsletter

We schedule one or two special programs each month to help people improve their research skills, and we offer free consultations for people who have hit a brick wall in their research. Our monthly e-mail newsletter can keep you current with “What’s New in RELIC.”
