Located at 511 Patton Street, Danville, VA 24541, the Danville Public Library has an extensive genealogy collection that you can have access to, even if you do not have a library card. Interested in checking out sites such as Ancestry.com and other databases without paying the fee? You can have free access using any library computer.Be Prepared
If you are making a special trip, please call to make an appointment at 434-799-5195 Ext. 8, option 1 for the Genealogy Department and option 2 for the VA-NC Piedmont Genealogical Society. Cameras are welcomed and you are able to make copies of any records that you find. Computer prints are $0.10 a page for black & white and $0.25 for color. All microfilm copies are made by staff and are $0.25 per frame. Currently, you are not able to save microfilm records to USB devices.Holdings of Danville Public Library
The genealogy department offers a wide variety of information that other libraries may not offer. You can also visit the Virginia-North Carolina Piedmont Genealogical Society, which is located adjacent to the genealogy room. The society was organized in April 1978 and is run by volunteers. Their holdings include over 2600 vertical files, 1300 family histories, historical and genealogical information for almost all of the counties in Virginia and North Carolina, and up-to-date cemetery records for all Danville Public cemeteries. While you are in Danville, there is also a Family History Center nearby. This center has access to the Family History Center Portal page, which gives free access in the center to premium family history software and websites that generally charge for subscriptions.
